Iceland

Iceland is truly like nowhere else on earth, there is no surprise why it has become flavour of the month.

It has been at the top of my wish list for some time due to its natural beauty and the fact that it’s a photographer’s dream, but nothing could prepare me for just how much of a dream it really was. The landscape is beyond words and the dramatic light meant the photo opportunities were endless. We planned a trip going around the entire island in our mini camper van. After the first few days of stopping every few minutes to see something incredible, we knew that we would only scratch the surface of this magical land.

The island feels like it is ready to blow, with geothermal activity everywhere. Between the steam and bubbling mud there are amazing ice formations. I have never been somewhere where you can literally walk onto a glacier and have the entire place to yourself. Moss and waterfalls are two of my favourite things; well it’s literally the land of moss and waterfalls. Visiting in the shoulder season meant we had a lot of the northern attractions to ourselves. Thinking of some of the stand out moments of our trip is just too difficult, as I don’t know where to start. Often I simply put the camera down as it was pointless trying to capture the vast scene in front of me but it was also good to be in the moment. The long daylight hours meant sightseeing went on long into the night.

I had the opportunity to meet some of the local “creative’s” as part of a fashion shoot, and the talent found in this tiny country blew me away. Despite the extreme weather, the people of Iceland really embrace their natural surrounds; they certainly know how unique their little part of the world is.

We cannot wait to return to this magical land.
